Committee on Nominations

How the conference fills its elected leadership — and where nominations from the floor fit in.

Committee on Nominations

Book of Discipline ¶610.5 ¶610 The annual conference is responsible for structuring its ministries and administrative procedures in order to accomplish its purpose (¶ 601), with the exception of the mandated provisions of ¶¶ 611, 624, 634, 635, 636, 638, 640, 647, 648.… The Book of Discipline 2020/2024, ¶610 · via Plenary

What it is

The Committee on Nominations proposes the people who fill elected positions across the conference’s boards, commissions, and vision teams. The Discipline asks it to work toward inclusiveness — clergywomen, youth and young adults, older adults, small churches, people with disabilities, and racial and ethnic persons — and to balance representation across districts.

How it works at conference

The committee brings a preliminary report early, which includes the process for nominations from the floor, and a final report acted on later in the session (Rule 25). If you want to nominate someone, the preliminary report is the moment to learn how.
